We are an independent, grassroots event aimed at highlighting and promoting the endeavors of African descended people is the various fields and industry of literature; from authorship, to publishing , to distribution. We are proudly presented by the Richmond, VA division of the
Universal Negro Improvement Association & African Communities League (UNIA-ACL).
Due to the lack of Black-owned media and bookstores in the vicinity where we currently reside, the festival was developed to combat this lack of media resources and access. The festival itself is just the ground floor to a much broader issue, and bigger picture. Fore we are far more than just a one-time event....
WE ARE A MOVEMENT!!! No longer should we be relegated to one small section of a mainstream bookstore;
we have our own. No longer should we be relegated to just the genres of Urban Lit and Erotic:
we are SO much more than that. No longer should our children be forced to look up to heroes and characters that don't look like them in the field of comic books and children's books;
we've created our own. No longer should we have to read magazine that don't reflect our lifestyles and culture;
we have our own.
We are far more than just a yearly festival; we are a growing network of information. Please feel free to contact us at any time at
BCMC_Richmd@yahoo.com. Knowledge is power, and information is key.
ONE GOD...ONE AIM....ONE DESTINY!!!!
